Marymount Califonria University Marymount Califonria University Marymount Califonria University Marymount Califonria University Marymount Califonria University :lJedicalion "The true purpose of education is to cherish and unfold the seed of immortality already sown within us; to develop, to their fullest extent, the capacities of every kind with which the God Who made us has endowed us." The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary have embodied this prin-ciple in their schools. They have shown us the way to everlasting happi-ness, and they have given our minds and souls the knowledge and the guidance we seek. Through their example, we have learned the virtues of charity, faith and humility enabling us to fulfill our role in life in the true spirit of Mary. In communicating these qualities to us, they have contributed gen-erously to the shaping of our minds and characters in a way that exempli-fies the Catholic college graduate. We the class of 1961 therefore, dedicate our Maricor to the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in gratitude for instilling in us the fervent desire to attain the ideals of Marymount. 5 Marymount Califonria University AJ'EW JO :JJ'E~H p~1:ms ~t.p JO sno!~H~H: ~q:J JO JO:J:>~:JOld IIIXX NHOf 3:d0d SS3:NI'10H SIH 9 Marymount Califonria University HIS EMINENCE JAMES FRANCIS CARDINAL MciNTYRE Archbishop of Los Angeles 7 Marymount Califonria University VERY REVEREND MOTHER M. For some, it will mean new adventures in scholarly pursuits, but for others it will mean the end of formal learning. But there is never an end to learning. You are adding to your knowledge every day, with every new experience. You must approach the newness with a sincere desire to know, and to judge in the light of the principles you have already learned. Sincerity is a priceless virtue, and its cultivation should be your goal until the dawn of eternity. Never forget that happiness in life is measured by goodness, industry and reverence. Goodness is sincerity in relation to the things of God. Industry concerns itself with working according to God 1 s will and reverence honours the rights of others in God. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary thank you for dedicating to them the first year book from Palos Verdes. They receive it as a tribute to all those who have established the Marymount way of life, and in whose footsteps they follow. Our Lady of Marymount will lead you down the hills and across the highway. She will stand on the shore as your ship of hope is carried forward on the waves. When the waters are calm, you will see Her arms extended, and in the storms of life may She walk upon the waters to enfold you in Her sweet embrace. Yours devotedly in J. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary have embodied this prin-ciple in their schools.
